Donald Vernon Root, Sr.

Donald Vernon Root, Sr., 72-year-old longtime Vinita area resident, passed away July 20, 2026, at home. He was born on June 9, 1954, in Hamilton, Ohio to Vernon, Sr. and Melvie (Clifford) Root. He attended Big Cabin schools and graduated from Big Cabin High School.

Donald was a self-employed carpenter all his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed horses and hunting when he was younger. One of his post-retirement loves was riding in his 2019 Mustang GT.

Donald is survived by his sons, Donnie Root (Sheilla), and Charlie Root (Janey) of Vinita; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild; brothers, James’s “Beans” Root (Theresa) of Welch and Jarred Root (Krissy) of Freeport, Florida; and sisters, Crystal Pleasant (Eddie) of Mannford, and Janie Martin (Lincoln) of Chelsea.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Earnest “Pete” Root, Vernon “J.R.” Root, Jr., and Christopher “Tater” Root.
