Donna Brooks

September 3, 1940 — March 9, 2023

Big Cabin, Oklahoma

Donna LaDeane Brooks, 82-year-old Big Cabin resident, went home to her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2023. Donna was born in Inola, OK on September 3, 1940, to Albert Pearl Burns and Beulah Ione (Dieterle) Burns.

She married Roy Cecil Brooks on June 8, 1961, in Inola, OK. It was a family joke that Donna was an Okie and married a Texan. With Roy joining the Air Force, the couple moved to Laredo, Texas to live on the Air Force base. Both of their children; Patti and Richard, were born on the base. After their days at the base, the family relocated to Tulsa, OK.

Donna had several interests throughout her life. In her earlier years, she took lessons in oil painting and painted several oil paintings. She enjoyed other forms of painting, as well as needle stitch work.  Donna made various quilts. Donna enjoyed flying with Roy in his small aircraft to have lunch.

While the couple was still working, Roy and Donna built a home in Big Cabin, OK. While living in their home in Big Cabin, Donna loved nature, enjoyed feeding the wildlife, raising daylilies, and putting out seed to feed the birds. Donna hybridized daylilies, creating different colors. She started Brooks Daylily Garden. Donna retired after working over 30 years at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, as a registered nurse.

However, the most important membership she held was as a member of The Bride of Christ, an individual who had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, she believed in her heart and confessed with her mouth, Jesus is Lord, the only Son of God, born of a virgin, raised from the dead on the third day.  Donna believed, as her children believe, God is absolutely Good.  No darkness exists in Jesus. Throughout Donna’s adult life, she was a member of the Rolling Hills Baptist Church, Catoosa First Baptist Church, and then in mid-life, was a member of the Big Cabin Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-love: Patti Ann (Brooks) Pearsall and David Pearsall; a brother: Albert Paul Burns; and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Beulah Burns; her husband: Roy Cecil Brooks; her son and daughter-in-law: Richard Paul Brooks and Sherrie Brooks; and her siblings: Grace Pearl (Burns) Ladwig, Leland Chris Burns, Loraine Ruth (Burns) Drake, and Carol Joy (Burns) Fortner.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Big Cabin Baptist Church with Reverend Colin Kirk officiating. Lunch will be provided at 11:30.
