Doris J. Teague, 91, of College Station, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. She was born on July 20, 1934, in Noel, Missouri, to Earnest and Maggie East.
Doris graduated from Picher High School in Picher, Oklahoma, in 1952 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Lamar University. She later received a Master’s degree in Education from Sam Houston State University.
With a heart for children and a passion for teaching, Doris dedicated 20 years to elementary education. Beyond the classroom, she found joy in line and square dancing, painting, cooking, and sewing. She had a zest for life, a love of travel, and treasured the many lifelong friendships she built over the years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of BCS Church of Christ and loved the Lord.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Joy Dee McKnight. They were married for 32 years and raised two sons together. After Joy Dee’s untimely passing, she found love again and married Don O. Garrod, both fully embracing each other’s children and grandchildren as their own. They spent nine happy years together until his passing. In time, she rekindled a 40+ year friendship with Douglas L. Teague. The two found companionship and love for one another and were committed to loving each other’s families. They were married for 19 years until his death.
Doris is also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Virginia Ballenger; her brothers, Kenneth, N.B., and Earnie East; and her son, Larry McKnight.
She is survived by her son, James E. McKnight and his wife, Diane; her three granddaughters, Melody Reynolds, Angela Goddard, and Tricia Jenkins; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Jane Maxwell, and her family; and her nephew, David Ballenger, and his family; as well as many other cherished relatives and friends.
Doris will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
