Howard Laverne Scott 87 passed away at Osage Nursing Center in Nowata, Oklahoma on February 13, 2020. He was born in Nowata, Oklahoma August 22, 1932 to Roy Franklin Scott and Mildred Margaret (Tate) Scott. Howard attended Coody’s Bluff and Childers’s School before enlisting into the Army. He served in the Korean War and left the service as Sergeant First Class. Howard joined the National Guard until 1954 and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He owned and operated an oilfield business for many years. Howard mastered being, roughneck, pumper, oilfield worker and mechanic. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Lou Thompson, and the couple were married on March 24, 1996. Howard Attended Living Word Family Church and enjoyed fishing, watching movies, and being outdoors. He enjoyed riding racehorses and his favorite track was in St. Louis, Missouri. Howard loved spending time with his family and dogs. Howard will be missed by all who knew him.
Howard is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Scott, parents; Roy and Mildred Scott; one daughter, Melissa Lynn Remington; a son, Mark Scott; and by three siblings Bill Scott, Robert (Bob) Scott, and Pat Scott.
Survivors include six children, Steve Scott and wife, Brenda of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Tony Scott and wife, Robbie of Nowata, Robert Rush Remington and wife Heather of Fenton, Missouri, Sean Remington and wife, Jill of St. Charles, Missouri, J.J. Perkins and husband, Brad of Nowata, Cindy LaRussa and husband, Tony of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, David Scott of Nowata, Oklahoma, Roy Scott Jr. of Oklahoma City, 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, his beloved dogs; many other relatives and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation for Howard Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata. Funeral services will be held, 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 21, 2020 at Living Word Church, Nowata with the Dr. Allan Walker officiating. Services are entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. The family suggests that those who wish may make donations in Howard’s memory, be sent to Living Word Church, 225 S. Ash, Nowata, Oklahoma 74048.
