Jean Marceline McCray was born August 16, 1932 in Portland, Maine, the last of five children, to George and Alice DeGrasse. She graduated high school in the top 10% of her class, after which, she enlisted in the Marine Corp.
On June 9, 1951, Jean married Robert E Lee McCray. They were married for 42 years and had 5 children. They entered the ministry, enjoying over 35 years serving primarily in Oklahoma. Jean was an ordained Minister of Christian Education with the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana.
Jean was an accomplished artist and writer, with drawings and short stories published in various newsletters and magazines. She was known for her talents in teaching, training, and organizational skills. Her giftedness was best recognized in her influence and leadership with teens and young adults.
Jean was a self-taught woman, teaching herself to drive and to play the piano. She changed the dynamic of the pastor's wife, helping her counterparts better support their husbands while remaining true to personal values.
Jean loved. She loved Bob almost as much as he loved her. She loved her family. She loved music, reading and traveling. She and Bob spent the latter years of their time together RVing with friends and family. Even after Bob died in 1994, Jean continued to travel, visiting her grandchildren, even taking them with her at times.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, her loving husband, Rev. Robert (Bob) E Lee McCray, son, John McCray, son-in-law, Harold Huguley, and granddaughter, Sammantha Clemence-Bilbrey.
She is survived by son Henry (Terry) McCray, daughters Kim (Chris) Clemence, Suzy Huguley, Ann McCray, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Henry, John, Kim, and Suzy were so appreciative of Ann's love and constant care for mom during the last years of her life. Your love extended her ability to be an important part of family gatherings. We appreciate Mike McCray for generously providing such a beautiful and welcoming home for her to spend her final years.
