Jerry Allen Edwards, 74, of Big Cabin, Oklahoma, passed away at Claremore Hillcrest Hospital on December 22, 2021. He was born October 29, 1947, in Dalhart, Texas, to Lonnie W. Edwards and Bessie Lucille (Brannum) Edwards. He graduated from Artesia High School in Artesia, New Mexico. As a child he was the Eastern New Mexico State Poster Child for Easter Seals. Due to Jerry being born with no legs, he did not let his disability keep him out of sports. The football coach named Jerry his assistant and he worked with the other athletes in the weight room. He could also swim like a fish, that was his favorite sport. Jerry continued his education at Eastern New Mexico State College, then moving on to Draughn’s Business College where he earned his Business Degree. He worked as a dispatcher for several trucking companies in the US & Canada for over 45 years and in 1984 he married Cynthia Nissen in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jerry wanted out of the city. So In 1989 he took a job as a dispatcher for Frank and Sons Trucking. In his spare time Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and listening to blue grass. He was a member of the Victory Church Tulsa serving as a greeter and was regularly active in the local Mayes, and Rogers County churches. He and his wife worked with several youth and children’s church programs. Jerry loved talking to and meeting people. Above all he loved his Lord and family, friends they had a special place in his heart. Jerry will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Jerry in death are his parents Lonnie and Bessie Edwards, and siblings Randy Edwards, and Larry Edwards.
Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home; children, Allen Shane Edwards and wife Kathy, of Tulsa, Andrew Edwards, of Big Cabin, Jeremiah Edwards and wife Rosemary, of Tulsa; 5 grandchildren, Madasyn Edwards, William Edwards, Jordan Gurney, Marcus Gurney, Jaxon Edwards; siblings, Dale Edwards, Sandra K. Johnson; many other relatives and a host of friends.
