Michael Kenneth Jones

Michael Kenneth Jones, 73, of Afton, Oklahoma, passed away at his home February 12, 2024, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Vinita, Oklahoma, on November 7, 1950, to E.L. (Shorty) Jones and Betty Louise (Hale) Jones. He was a 1968 graduate of Vinita High School. On April 15, 1969, Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country for 20 years, retiring on April 30, 1989. Mike was radar controller for many of those years serving in Thailand, Germany, and numerous bases in the United States. He retired as a Master Seargent after a career with many awards and accommodations. On August 22, 1980, Mike married Michele Michog, in Duluth, Minnesota. Upon retirement from the Air Force the family moved back to Afton and Mike went to work for Eastern State Hospital and later the Department of Corrections prior to his retirement with the State. Mike enjoyed fishing, golfing, going to garage sales, and singing. He also enjoyed staying busy and piddling with tools. Mike had a huge heart and unconditional love for his wife, children and family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Preceding Mr. Jones in death are his parents, Shorty and Betty Jones. Survivors include his loving wife Michele, of the home; a daughter, Allison Diane Smith, and husband Gary, of Afton; two grandchildren, Carson Michael Smith of Fairland, Taylor Ann Smith of Joplin, Missouri; a sister Gloria Kelsey, of Chelsea; a brother James Jones, of Spavinaw, Ok., many other relatives and a host of friends.
