Robert "Bob" Neal Markel, a long-time Vinita area resident, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2026.

Born on May 29, 1952, in Sidney, Nebraska, Bob was the son of Edward II and Jeanne (Jewitt) Markel. On May 9, 1995, he married the love of his life, Brenda Beckman, in Greeley, Colorado. Bob spent most of his life working the land as a farmer, growing wheat and hay. He and Brenda also owned and operated a business in Grove, Oklahoma, for over 25 years before fully transitioning into retirement. True to his hardworking nature, Bob continued farming in retirement, raising hay right on their property.

A simple and easygoing man, Bob found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and taking scenic motorcycle trips. He was also an avid fan of NFL football and enjoyed collecting antique knives. An animal lover at heart, Bob spent more than two decades raising German Shepherds.

Bob is survived by His loving wife of 31 years, Brenda Markel, of the home, his son, Matt Markel, and his wife, Amanda, of Colorado and five grandsons. His brothers Dan Markel (Linda) of Nebraska, Steve Markel (Jenny) of Colorado, and Bill Markel (Sharon) of Colorado, numerous nephews, nieces, and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward II and Jeanne Markel, his daughter, Jessica Markel of Bartlesville; his brother, Jim Markel, of Chapel, Nebraska; and his brother, Mike Markel, of Alaska.

A Rosary will be held Monday August 17, 2026at 5:00 pm, at the Luginbuel Funeral Home chapel in Vinita, with visitation to follow for family and friends. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday August 18, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Langley, Oklahoma. Arrangements are in the care of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, family owned, locally operated.
